MALVERN Hills Conservators have launched a new Green Waste Centre to dispose of grass, gorse and wood chippings from their land.
Previously the material was stored in Malvern’s quarries, but now field staff take it to the new centre, which is situated above Earnslaw Quarry, on Wyche Road.
Once there the waste is allowed to rot down and become less dense, before it is sent to a recycling centre where it is made into compost.
Conservators director Ian Rowat said the organisation had looked into composting the material themselves, but that the amount of time and manpower required meant it would not be possible.
He added: “We will be looking at more green initiatives in the future. I think this is the first of many as we try and improve our carbon footprint.”
