MALVERN RFC are switching things up across the board at management and coaching level ahead of the 2023/24 rugby season.

The club revealed last week that there is a new director of adult rugby in Marc Gaubert, who takes over from Rob Cook, who now becomes DoR of Youth Rugby at the club.

Gaubert and his family has been involved heavily in the youth rugby system at Spring Lane for a number of years and coached the Colts teams most recently. He played for Malvern first team in the 90s having also turned out for the likes of Ludlow, Streatham & Croydon, Old Alleynians and Tenbury.

Following his appointment, he said: "Many thanks folks for all the kind comments I have received. I have had immense enjoyment over the years through MRFC, long may that continue.

"There is definitely a feeling of excitement for me and amongst the coaching team for this upcoming season; I am so looking forward to working with them and the great group of players at Malvern. 2023-2024 season is going to be a blast!"

As well as the movement at the top, the first team also sees some new faces join the coaching group.

Having unofficially run things last season, Ieuan Mustow has now been officially named as the head coach (as well as Backs Coach) for the senior teams. The former Worcester University and North Midlands centre has been a player-coach for a couple of years and will continue to play going forward.

He will be joined by the former Worcester Warriors back-row forward Morgan Monks as Forwards Coach.

"I am thrilled to be involved in an already exciting team! I would like to bring clarity in all set-piece areas and install a physical mindset that makes other teams not want to play Malvern upfront.

"The aim for us is to be the top forward pack in the league with success in all areas including set piece and breakdown work. We need to pride ourselves on the areas which don’t always require talent E.g. work rate and knowledge on individual areas on the pitch."

Elsewhere, the popular Tom Hale, or 'Cube' as he is known, will become First Team Manager for the upcoming season. Hale has played at Malvern since the age of 6 and made his debut in the first team at 18 under then DoR Andy Longley.

He went on to captain the first team for a number of years and racked up a huge amount of caps before eventually having to stop playing due to injuries.

"I feel very fortunate to be involved in a non-playing capacity but do miss playing a little bit," he added.

In the final few changes to the set-up, John Clark will join as Strength & Conditioning Coach and Set Piece Coach, whilst Emma Fosh will take up the role as Second Team manager.
