AN e-mail address and telephone number has been specially set up to take the views of residents regarding a proposed mental health facility at a former Malvern Wells nursing home.

A group of anonymous Wells residents, calling themselves the Malvern Wells Action Group, are worried about plans for Sherborne Towers, on the Hanley Road. The premises have been bought by Partnerships in Care, an independent provider of mental health services.

It intends to turn the site into a non-secure unit, housing around 17 patients with mental health disorders including schizophrenia.

A meeting of Malvern Wells Parish Council, to discuss the issue with developers, takes place at Malvern Wells Village Hall, at 7.30pm on Wednesday, May 30.

The action group has set up e-mail address mwaction@btconnect.com and phone number 07909 624666, for residents who are unable to attend the meeting, to register their views before the meeting.

A nearby resident, who did not want to be named, said: "We're concerned because there will be no support for patients in this area.

"We've hardly got a bus service, or village shops, so were would these people go when they're not in their four walls?

"It needs to be in a built-up area where there are plenty of services," she said.

"This is not going to be a facility for people with mild mental health disorders and we're concerned about the type of patients.

"It's not that we're at all against people with mental health disorders but we feel this is not the right place for a unit like this."
