IT will be a dream come true for 15-year-old Leah Baker when Malvern’s brand new ice rink opens tomorrow, Friday, February 18.

Leah set up a Facebook group last year asking for an ice rink to be opened in Worcestershire and soon had thousands of supporters. Little did she know then that a skating rink would open in her own home town of Malvern.

The Dyson Perrins pupil is not an experienced skater but having tried it a few times was keen to see a rink open locally so she could skate regularly.

She will be skating on the new IceQuest rink at the official opening night tomorrow.

IceQuest, a real ice rink, is at the LaserQuest centre on Spring Lane and will be the only skating facility in the three counties.

Owner Sharon Smyth said: “We have always wanted to open an ice skating rink. They are great fun and we are already busy taking bookings.”

The ice rink replaces the centre’s former bowling alley and soft play area.

The ice rink will be open throughout half term with skating sessions all day from 10am until 10pm. The rink is also available for children’s parties.
