FAMILIES took advantage of a rare dry spell this afternoon (Friday) to enjoy a host of exciting activities at a Malvern fun day.

The joint initiative from Worcestershire County and Malvern Hills District councils saw young and old flock to Dukes Meadow, in Pickersleigh, to enjoy everything from falconry displays to cheerleading workshops.

Leonie Silk, a youth worker with the county council’s targeted youth support team, said: “It’s been fabulous - really good. Throughout the day I reckon we’ve had about 500 people coming in and out.”

The fun day, which also included appearances from West Mercia Police, Festival Housing and Borrowers Toy Library, was completely free to enter.

“People have said they’re having an absolutely fantastic day and they wish we did more things like this,” added Ms Silk.

The Funbusters Roadshow kept the crowds entertained with their crazy antics throughout the afternoon.

Also entertaining youngsters were free basketball coaching, have-a-go hula-hooping, a climbing wall, face-painting and sporting activities.

Craig Trafford, from Malvern Link, attended the event with his three young sons. He said the youngsters were “having great fun” getting up close and personal with the birds of prey. “It’s great to see so many kids out in the sunshine enjoying themselves,” he added.
