AN 11-year-old from Malvern is attempting to drum up support for his bid to enter the record books.

Next week Zak Reynolds will be joining hundreds of other drummers at Birmingham’s NIA as they attempt to pound their way to an official world record.

More than 600 drummers are expected to take part in the “Stick it to MS” event, which will attempt to break the world record for drummers playing the same beat simultaneously to raise money for the Multiple Sclerosis Society. The current record of 533 was set in America three years ago.

Zak started playing drums 18 months ago and is an active member of the Worcester School of Rock and Performance.

His mum Emma Wesley said Zak cannot wait for the event to happen.

“He is very excited about the prospect of being in the Guinness Book of Records,” she said. “He is such a keen drummer. He would sit and finger tap constantly before we bought him a drum kit and now he plays it all the time.

“The fact that this event is raising money for the MS Society is also very important to Zak. His aunt has MS and we have friends who have it too so he knows just how good a cause this is.”

Zak will be attending DrumFest at the NIA the day before the challenge, and is hoping to meet some of his idols from the world of rock music.

Miss Wesley said her son would love to have a career as a drummer.

“A lot of people comment on how good a drummer he is and he is definitely up for the rock and roll lifestyle,” she said.

Zak set a fundraising target of £150 for his challenge and more than £115 has already been pledged to date.
