AFTER a pretty miserable second half of June, all eyes this week will have been on the weather forecast for West Malvern’s midsummer celebration, tomorrow’s WestFest. At the time of writing showers are forecast for the earlier part of the day, clearing later. So even if the weather seems discouraging when the show opens at 11.30am, we should not be put off heading for the Playing Fields for the afternoon/evening sessions, which do not end till 10pm. Organised and run by local volunteers, with mainly local talent among the 15 bands performing during the day, and with any financial surplus being distributed to local good causes, this is very much a community event deserving of our support. Full details, admission charges etc on www.west-fest.org.uk.

Also on the ‘local’ theme, glowing reports are starting to emerge from those who have sampled the new menu at the Brewers Arms. Based on local produce as far as possible, this is now available from 12- 2pm and 6-9pm. The Brewers now also has a land line phone number – 01684 561989
