A tree-mendous tree walk running as part of National Tree Week.
Herefordshire Wildlife Trust’s Reserves Officer, Doug Lloyd, will lead a figure of 8 guided tree walks, taking in some of the Wye Valley woodlands which represent one of the most extensive areas of woodland in the UK, on Saturday, December 5. Meeting at the Forestry Commission’s Doward Carpark, the walk will take in the veteran, rare and notable trees on some of its Doward Reserves, which include the largest coppiced beech on record in the UK and rare endemic whitebeam species, many of which are only found on the Doward.
The Doward landscape has been as much shaped by people as nature and the walk will uncover elements of this fascinating history, looking at the history of the trees, their management and past and present uses of wood.
Beginning at 10am, there will be an option to finish at 1pm when the walk will pause at the car park or you may continue for the afternoon. The day will finish at around 3pm. The cost for the all-day walk is £10 (£8 for HWT members); for morning only, £5 (£4 for HWT members). Booking is essential as places are limited. Book online at www.herefordshirewt.org or call 01432 356872.
