TUESDAY, October 13, saw the first of our programme of indoor speakers when DeAnna Cardoza, an Archaeologist and Guide at Chedworth Roman Villa, came to give us a talk about the history of the site and villa and also an update on the recent archaeological finds and the ongoing research on the site.

She told us about the time the site was occupied by the Celts and later the Romans, and went on to describe life during the Roman period of the second and third centuries. Evidence of the food eaten has been found and this included sheep, fallow deer, hare and even snails.

Many beautiful mosaics have been uncovered showing the lives and beliefs of the owners of the villa, who were believed to have been very wealthy Romano-Britons. So important are these finds and the ongoing archaeology that experts from all over the world visit the site, which has now been nominated for a world award.

Our next talk will be entitled Wyre to Croome - A Journey Through Worcestershire Wildlife by Wendy Carter from Worcestershire Wildlife Trust, and will be on Friday, November 13 in the Canteen at Croome Court beginning at 10am for Refreshments and talk at 10.30am.
