THE October meeting began by singing Jerusalem with a twist, as members were accompanied by a group from the Worcester Ukulele club.

President Lesley Anne welcomed everyone and announced visitors and birthdays, followed by the sad news that one of the long standing members Kath Harris had passed away.

The new programme for next year is progressing and the committee felt all suggestions had been covered in it. The Severn Group Quiz is coming up as is the Annual Council Meeting at the Three Counties Showground. There will be an exhibition at the Hive from November 17-22to mark the WI Centenary. Members were reminded of their chosen charity Mary’s Meals Back Packs, and had received two backpacks, one for a boy and one for a girl. A January get together for a meal has been mentioned for those who cannot make it to the Christmas lunch.

Lesley Anne then introduced the Worcester Ukulele Club, who entertained members thoroughly with classics from artists including The Beatles, The Kinks and the Rolling Stones. Sheila Andrews then thanked the club for their extremely enjoyable performance.

Hanley Castle WI meets on the second Thursday of every month in Hanley Swan Village Hall, at 7.30pm. The WI has been inspiring women for one hundred years, so come along, bring a friend and see what it's all about!
