What an interesting evening I had at the Arts and Crafts club a couple of weeks ago. Jan Long a lady from Bromsberrow gave a talk for over an hour, on the life of Elizabeth Barrett Browning. Mostly when someone talks about a famous person, past or present, its usually full of facts, but Jan gave us lots of interesting snippets, not only of Elizabeth but of her father and grandfather, who owned plantations in the West Indies and were slave owners. It gave me an insight into the kind of character Elizabeth turned out to be. Jan had also visited the places Elizabeth and Robert had lived in here and abroad. She had done some incredible research to give us this talk and keep our attention for that length of time.

That's one of the reason I enjoy writing this column. I get to go to all the events that are held here in our lovely and friendly village! I hope that all our newcomers, will enjoy living here as I do.
