ST James’ church in Callow End was full last Friday as Callow End Primary School held its Harvest Festival.

Class 1 sang a song about the Scarecrow, Class 3 a song In my trolley about shopping and Class 3 sang Thank you for everything except food like sprouts! Class 4 read a poem and led the prayers. Year 6 children had baked a loaf in the shape of a Harvest Sheaf of wheat, and the school children had donated items food and fruit for local charities, including Maggs Day Centre, Worcester. Afterwards a Cake sale was held for MacMillan.

On Sunday,October 4 Callow End Church holds its Harvest Service at 9.30am, and at St Peter’s, Harvest will be a Songs of Praise at 5.30pm. Any produce may be brought to the churches and will be delivered to Maggs Day Centre and Malvern Hills Foyer.

Powick School harvest is being celebrated in St Peter’s Church today at 9am.

Last week Counsellor Tom Wells took part in the Worcester 10k Run for MacMillan Nurses. Last Friday a number of Coffee Mornings were also held for MacMillan, including The Blue Bell at Callow End and the Maize Maze in Upton Road, where a variety of cakes could be sampled and a tombola was held. The maze will remain open – weather permitting – on weekends only in October until Halloween on October 31. Final amounts raised for MacMillan are not yet known.

Tomorrow, Saturday, to celebrate World Mental Health Week, a tea party Time for Tea takes place in Powick Parish Hall from 1.30pm and will include a Flower Arranging demo at 2pm, followed by a delicious tea. Also on sale will be crafts, jams and preserves, raffle and there is an art exhibition. Tickets are £8 to include a glass of fizz on arrival and of course tea!
