WITH a number of members still away on holiday, there was a very small attendance at the September meeting.

There is a very varied programme for the Not All Jam and Jerusalem event taking place between November 17-22, including an exhibition in The Hive, showing the part played by the WI in both World Wars, an activity day and a workshop. All details are available from our Secretary.

Subscriptions payable by members in 2016 will be £37.50 and for dual membership £18. This still remains remarkable value when you consider that eleven meetings are held each year plus there are many other varied activities and trips available through the WFWI.

From October retailers will start to charge for all plastic carrier bags supplied to customers and therefore it is timely that the WI have designed green tote bags which are available at £2 each through WFWI.

The speaker for the evening was Richard Kendrick who for thirty five years had run an outside catering company. Not only had he attended top sporting events such as the British Grand Prix, Commonwealth Games, Badminton and Burghley horse trials and very many more events, he also worked with the leading television and film crews on outside productions.

Through slides members were able to see how he transported his huge mobile kitchens to events and his large dining buses that could seat up to 70 people. He also spoke of the famous personalities that he had met throughout his career.

Not everything went smoothly all of the time however, and he shared some of the difficulties that he had encountered. On the day of the great storm, when Michael Fish assured the nation that there was no danger of a hurricane hitting the south of England, Richard and his team were at the PA Wentworth golf day. His photographs taken before and after the storm show the devastation! This was a truly fascinating talk.

The next meeting will be held on October 8 when committee members will take a back seat and members will enjoy members evening.
