TO mark the start of Civic Week in Malvern, Freemasons from the Masonic Hall on Belle Vue Terrace held an Open Day on Saturday, July 11 for people to drop in, have a conducted tour and learn more about Freemasonry.

Highlight of the day was when Philip Serrell, the TV celebrity and auctioneer of Bargain Hunt and Flog It fame came along to present charity cheques raised by Malvern Freemasons for local good causes.

The cheques were received by Leading Cadet Evans J on behalf of Malvern Sea Cadets (£3850), Angela Cooper and Kay Coombes of SMILE, a project within ARCOS (£500), Sheila Young the Chairman of the Friends of Malvern Hospital (£500) and Councillor Barbara Williams the Chairman of Malvern Hills District Council on behalf of The Great Malvern Relief in Need Charity (£500).

Philip Serrell asked each of the recipients how their donations would help in their charity work and was left in no doubt that they were most welcome and would be put to good use in the local community.

Malvern Freemasons are deeply indebted to Philip for taking time out from his busy schedule to present the donations.
