POWICK Ramblers held their AGM last month when the committee was re-elected.

Don Woodfin reported on the number of walks which had taken place over the last year, namely 55 including evening walks. That numbered an average of one a week with an average of 16 attending each walk. Once again Garth Lowe had led the highest number of walks and after the business meeting, he showed slides of a walk from the Dordogne to the Pyrenees. The next walk is on Tuesday, June 2 starting from Alfrick Village Hall at 10am. The four mile walk includes Hayley Dingle and will be led by Garth.

The Victory in Europe Party held at Callow End recently was most enjoyable and successful in raising over £300 (including the raffle) for the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal and the local Branch of Powick & Callow End. John Mason and his team arranged the evening when over 70 people sat down to enjoy cheese and biscuits and wine. The tables were draped with flags – of St George and the Union Jack – with small flags and matching serviettes and the hall decorated with red, white and blue bunting. During the evening wartime songs were played and sounds including the air raid siren reminded people of the relief that victory brought. John Mason also dressed as a spiv selling nylons and knicker elastic on the black market. A quiz of famous faces from the war era and pictures of planes kept everyone busy and newspapers from the period were available to read at each table. John and the RBL thank everyone who attended.

The Christian Aid Week appeal raised £1,721 in Powick Parish and this included the £170 raised at the Coffee Morning in Callow End. Thank you all.
