ST James's Church and Holy Trinity churches are joining forces for their services this Sunday, the day after tomorrow.

The morning service will consist of a celebration of Palm Sunday at Holy Trinity, with a donkey procession starting at the Parish Hall at 10.20am followed by a united service starting at 10.30am. There will therefore be no morning service at St James's, which however will host a joint evening service at 6.30pm. This will take the form of a reflection in music and word on the Crucifixion, with an augmented choir from Holy Trinity.

Meanwhile, the Cricket Club quiz which had been scheduled for Sunday at the Brewers Arms has regrettably had to be cancelled. However, another popular Brewers-based activity, the well-established Wednesday evening walks, will restart next Wednesday, /April 1. All are welcome to join in a leisurely stroll on the hills with excellent refreshments available at the pub afterwards. Meet in the pub yard at 6.30pm. (NB This is not an April Fool!).

West Malvern Players' three-night run at the Village Hall was a hilarious presentation of possibly the most remarkable play-within-a-play since Shakespeare's Hamlet! The ladies of the Farndale Avenue Townswomens' Guild were putting on a sort of ghost story, peopled by characters rejoicing in names like Graves, Tombs, Death, Blood and Slaughter. If not perhaps the most sophisticated production ever seen here, anything it lacked in polish was more than made up for by the resourcefulness of the cast and their infectious enjoyment of all the proceedings (planned or unplanned). Memorable cameos were played by Helen Barker as the Thatcheresque Guild chairperson, Wendy Lewin's superbly accented Austrian 'man' – complete with detachable moustache! - and Jessy Harper-Solomon as the tipsy maid Crematia. Special mention too to David Lee and Paul Edmonds for slick management of the lighting and sound – and to hard-working and self-effacing producers Sue and David Matthews.
