THE Malvern Branch of Save the Children AGM took place on Tuesday, March 10.

The Chairman reported that it had been another full year during which we had responded to Disaster Emergency Appeals for Syria, South Sudan , Gaza and for the latest appeal for the Ebola outbreak in Africa.

She then itemised the major fund raising events we have held during 2014, including the biennial event of the Burns Night Supper, the Summer and Christmas Fairs and the annual Tennis Tournament. We have also run the MCA Charity Christmas Card Shop which is a big commitment. She thanked Joan and Sandy Gibson for taking over the running of it and Sue Sellwood for her organisation Skills. Apart from these events she mentioned the quiz nights , the street and store collection, the teas for open gardens and the carol singing in Morrisons. Finally she thanked everyone for their hard work in making these events so successful, including the committee, husbands, family, friends and all our other loyal supporters. TheTreasurer showed in her accounts that we had actually raised £13,335.25 in 2014 plus £4,400 from the Government when they doubled the amounts raised by us during November and December, although this will not be shown on our accounts but goes directly to Save the Children. There were then various other reports followed by the election of Officers. All those currently in office were re- elected for 2015, including President, Dorothea Marsh, Chairman, Brenda Barker, Secretary, Joan Gibson and Treasurer, Sarah- Ann Bradford. There followed the presentation of long service awards , a badge to Sue Johnson who had completed 21 years on the Committee and a compact to Joan Gibson who had completed 30 years.

The AGM was followed by the Branch Meeting. Since January 2015 we have already raised £2,868. This amount is made up from the sale of Save the Children Christmas cards, a Lent Lunch in Colwall, a Spring Lunch with speaker Irene Tyack, again in Colwall and the Pancake Race sponsorship. Money raised by Save the Children goes to help children both in the United Kingdom and abroad.
