THERE were times last weekend when the pavements on parts of West Malvern Road seemed to be competing with Oxford Street on the Saturday before Christmas, as people thronged to the Arts Festival organised by the Malvern Community Foundation.

The remarkable range of exhibits – mainly paintings but including other forms such as sculpture, photography, printing and mosaics, and overwhelmingly by local artists – highlighted how much talent lurks behind our neighbours’ front doors!

A boisterous wind created minor problems for some exhibitors – solid lumps of Malvern stone were in use in places to keep marquees from taking off ! But the whole occasion brought a real buzz to the village, as well as visitors from far and near.

Congratulations to all concerned – not least the band of volunteer helpers who provided support, information and refreshments during the long opening hours of the event. Good show, chaps!

Meanwhile the fun and frolics will continue this weekend at a free barbecue and fun night at the Royal British Legion Club in Lower Road tomorrow Saturday, August 23 from 7.30pm-11.30pm. There will be skittles, bingo and a raffle and the organisers are keen to point out that no experience is needed to play skittles – just come along to enjoy a friendly evening.
