POWICK Primary School Leavers’ Service was held in St Peter’s Church at the end of term and began with the school orchestra playing two numbers.

The congregation joined in the first hymn traditionally sung at this occasion: One more step along the world I go. Members of Year 6 read Psalm 23 and Forever Young by Bob Dylan. They gave their memories of Powick School and led the prayers. Reverend Sue Irwin presented the Leavers with New Testaments from the church and she gave the Address and the final Blessing. This year there were 29 pupils leaving school to continue in education at local schools: Chase High School and Dyson Perrins CofE Academy in Malvern; Hanley Castle High School and Worcester RGS. The whole school sang Reach in, reach in, reach out sung at Lifepath Malvern, and sang, I watch the sunrise and the service ended with Year 6 singing their Leavers’ Song. The Jean Jeffreys Prize was awarded to Oscar Crawford of Year 5. Head teacher Richard Drewett gave the closing remarks and thanked Gladys Floyd for her 18 years as a Teaching Assistant with the Reception Class on her retirement. At a Staff Dinner held recently at the Bear and Ragged Staff at Bransford, Gladys was presented with a crystal vase and many flowers were received by her.
