Nineteen walkers enjoyed fine sunny weather last Wednesday for their five mile walk around Wellington Heath, Oyster Hill and Coddington Village ending at the Hope End, Ledbury, before taking lunch at the Farmers’ Arms. The walk was led by Phil. On Friday Garth led a three mile walk in the cool of the evening from the New Inn at Storrridge with ten other walkers and dogs Tilly, Max and Zebbie. The path led up Crumpton Hill to Knights’ cider farm, and past the cider orchards. At the top of the ridge there were views across the Severn Valley towards Upton, Newland, Callow End, Powick and to Worcester. At two points the path crossed the Worcestershire Way and the Geopark Way before leading down through pasture and returning to the New Inn for liquid refreshment

Powick Ramblers will venture further afield on Wednesday for a six mile flat walk meeting at the Lock Inn at Wolverley (DY10 3RN) at 10am. The walk follows the canal and crosses fields and woods, and will be led by Gill (01562 742820).

Congratulations to al the children of Key Stage 2 at Powick Primary school for their excellent end of term play. It was a new take on the traditional story of Robin Hood and was played in the style of a panto entitled Robin Hood and the Sherwood Hoodies ! There were plenty of songs and chorus singing and jokes galore. The comedy was well executed especially by Robin and his band of merry men with their dance routine in tights. There were funny scenes with the spies employed by King John and the Sheriff of Nottingham and guards were seen as baddies. But Robin won the day with the help of the villages and the many skunks dressed as scouts. Special mention should be made of Ellie Brighton (Maid Marion), Amy Beard (Nursie) and Joe Thomas-Round (Robin) for their performances and confidence in singing. The whole production was appreciated by three full houses in Powick Parish hall last week. Well done to everyone involved, especially to Mrs J Appleby and Mrs D Jeffrey for their Production and Direction of a cast of hundreds and to pianist James Godfrey for musical accompaniment.

Members of Powick Parish Community Choir performed at the wedding of Lucy and Ben at Stanbrook Abbey last Saturday afternoon. The songs reflected the theme of love and included Hallelujah by L Cohen, How much do I love you by Ellie Golding, Can you feel the love tonight? by Elton John, The Rose, and I can make you love me by Bob Dylan and Beauty and the Beast. Special thanks to Tom Wells (Musical Director) and Sam Coates (keyboard) and to the Management for the opportunity for the choir to sing at a civil wedding in Stanbrook. A social get-together with Pimms was held last Sunday in the hall when choir members had the chance to chat! The choir will now break for the summer but will resume in September when new members will be welcome.
