FOLLOWING the poorly supported meeting in June, sadly the chairman was forced to abandon the July meeting due to failure of members to attend. We do not have a meeting in August but it is vital that we have a good attendance at our next scheduled meeting on September 9 as this is the build up to Remembrance 2014.

It is obvious that if we continue with the current lack of support; the future of the branch and the presence of The Royal British Legion in Powick and Callow End is bleak to say the least.

The main items to be noted this month are very important dates for the diary.

As there will not be a Group 3 event this year, The Group 3 supported service of Remembrance and Commemoration of the start of the First World War is to be held by Claines RBL branch at Claines church on Saturday evening July 26 starting at 7pm. It is hoped that the Powick and Callow End Branch Standard will be able to attend along with as many members as possible, and there is a rehearsal for the standard bearers at 6pm in Claines church.

The return skittles match with the WI is fixed for Friday, August 15 at Madresfield Club starting at 8pm and the WI kindly offered to do the refreshments again, we do need support for this social event or it may not happen again so come if you can.

The following day Saturday, August 16 there is the big military show in Worcester to be held on Pitchcroft to mark the 150th anniversary of 214 Royal Artillery Battery.

A morning service at the cathedral will be followed by a military parade through the city centre and all standards and veterans from the Worcester area branches are invited to take part in the parade. We are asked to assemble for the march at Copenhagen Street car park 11.30am-11.45am for marching off at noon. Refreshments will be available to all marchers on Pitchcroft after the parade.

The last date for the diary is the return Group 3 inter branch skittles competition for the Trevor Barry’ cup. This will be held on Friday, September 5 at 8pm and we need six players if possible for a full team.

Finally our thoughts are with our many absent friends whose health for various reasons; prevents them from being with us at the present time.

Our next meeting will be at Madresfield Club on Tuesday, September 9 at 8.15pm and this very important meeting may well determine the future of the branch please attend if you can.
