ARRIVING back in the English summer, having been in the southern hemisphere enjoying the sunny but wintery weather there, one can’t help but notice how green it is back here. Summer is in full stride and you may like to take note of some of the exciting activities scheduled to take place in the village.

The Garden Club’s Summer Lecture is on Wednesday, July 9 at 8pm in the Memorial Hall (HR8 1ND). John Massey (MBE) will be speaking on the The Magic of the Changing Seasons: Summer into Autumn. John is the proprietor of Ashwood Nurseries and is a well-known plantsman. Club members pay £4 and guests £8. Please book with Kathy on 01531 634020 or Margaret on 01531 635380. Price includes light refreshments.

The official opening of the Pool Piece recreational ground takes place on Saturday, July 12 at 3.30pm. Richard Allsopp has a poem lined up and the junior WHADS are acting out a play. Bring your own picnic and join in the fun. Once again we thank our sponsor, BIFFA, for their generous support for this project. Do come along!

There will be two Open Garden days this summer, these on Sunday, July 20, 2pm-6pm, and Sunday , August 10, 2pm-6pm. Entry fee is £5 on both days and children under 12 may come for free! Please don’t bring your dog but do bring some change to buy plants, refreshments and raffle tickets. More information will follow soon.

This Sunday’s service at Christ Church takes the form of Communion and Book of Common Prayer. All welcome. Congratulations to John Rhodes on his ordination to ministry at the Hereford Cathedral this past weekend.

Have a lovely weekend!
