THE morning of Saturday, April 5 saw 33 members of Malvern Hills District Footpath Society leave Malvern by coach for the start of the first eight mile leg of the Mortimer Trail, beginning at Ludlow Castle.
While three members, led by Eugene Colwell, decided to stay in Ludlow to explore the town trail, the other 30 stalwarts, led by Sue Hood, Anne Colwell, Sally Hart and Sheila Hallows, set off to romp through the Mortimer Forest on a quite hilly and strenuous track.
The trail went over Mary Knoll, along the Mary Knoll Valley, through Haye Park Wood, over High Vinnalls, past Richard's Castle and The Goggin to end the walk at Orleton.
The photograph shows the whole group after the coffee break, before descending from the highest point of High Vinalls.
The weather generally was cool and windy but apart from one heavy shower it remained dry.
Even so it was nice to board the coach for a warm and comfortable journey back to Malvern, and to learn that the three members had also enjoyed their walk of discovery in Ludlow.
