LAST Thursday 27 people and five dogs joined Garth Lowe for Powick Ramblers’ three and a half mile walk, starting from the Fox and Hounds, Lulsley.

The route led uphill to Warren Farm to reach the ridge of Ravenshill and woodland. The way followed part of the Worcestershire Way, reached Knightwick Chapel and then climbed up again to the ridge to part of the Three Choirs Way. Having reached Highfields Farm, the path led downhill and back via Warren farm to the Fox and Hounds. Garth was thanked and a fish and chips lunch was enjoyed. It was here that 42 people sat down to an excellent dinner last Monday when Garth was given a bottle of wine as a gift for leading the most walks during the year.

Two other walks have been planned for April. The first is a long walk of eight miles on Thursday, April 17. Meeting at 10am in the car park on Kempsey Common (GR868485) the walk will be to Croome Court past Pirton Pool. Lunch will be at the Court (a picnic or purchased in the canteen). Some may wish to do half the walk and be met at Croome Court; please inform the leader Nancy on 01905 821796.

On Friday, April 25 meet at the New Inn at Clifton on Teme for a four mile walk with some climbs and views, led by Garth (01886 833362).

The AGM of Powick Ramblers will be held on Monday, April 28 at the Orchard Centre, Colletts Green, at 7.30pm when Garth will give a talk entitled Bats and Badgers. After many years in compiling the programme of walks, Joy Bunyan will be retiring, so a new position has to be filled!

Today, Friday, the coffee morning at Link Nurseries, in Hospital Lane, will include advice on how to take care of garden machinery. The event is from 10am to noon and plants and planters will be on sale along with spring plants.

The service of celebration for the life of the late Alan Craven of Colletts Green was held last Friday at Worcester Crematorium, which was full with family, friends, neighbours and work colleagues. Alan had bravely fought cancer with great determination and over the last three years had lived life to the full. Alan had arranged the funeral which was led by the officiant Elaine Meredith and Alan had written a short autobiography of his life which was read out. Donations were made on behalf of Cancer Research UK and St Richard’s Hospice. His sons Stuart and Bryan and partner Gill wish to thank everyone for their support over the years, for attending the funeral and meeting afterwards at Barnards Green Cricket Club to exchange memories.

Powick Primary School holds its Easter Service in St Peter’s Church today, Friday, at 9am.
