MOTHERING Sunday at St Peter’s last Sunday morning saw the church full, as it was a 4-Faith service for the Benefice.

The story of Hannah and her wish for a baby and her fulfilling of a promise to devote his life to working for priest Eli, in service to God, was told through drama. The drama was enacted by children of the Confirmation group and children of Junior Church who also read prayers they had written to say Thank you for their mums. Posies of flowers were distributed to all mums after the communion service.

Next Sunday the morning service of Communion at Powick will be at the earlier time of 9.30am. It will be followed by coffee and the Vestry Meeting for parishioners to elect the church wardens and then the Annual Parochial Church Meeting.

Palm Sunday is on April 13 and will be marked by a procession at Callow End from the village hall at 9.30am to St James’ Church for a service. A Donkey procession will leave Hayswood Farm in Madresfield at 10.30am to arrive at the church for a family service at 11am. At St Peter’s Communion will be at the usual time of 8am.

For Good Friday, a procession of witness is being held in Malvern Link. Leaving Handyman House at 9.30am, members of the churches will walk to the URC, stopping en route to sing hymns and hear readings. Hot Cross buns will be given to those who pass by and the walk culminates with a service in the URC Church at 10.30am. Meanwhile at St Peter’s a service on devotion will be held at 2pm.

On Easter Sunday, April 20, there is the 8am communion at St Peter’s and later, at 5.30pm, a service of Easter Music and Readings.

The next Link Nurseries Coffee Morning will be on Friday, April 11 at 10am when there will be a talk on how to take care of garden machinery. Apart from plants for sale, there will be wooden planters and raised beds on show which can be ordered.

The AGM of the Friends of St Peter’s will be held in the church on Monday, April 7 at 6.30pm.

Another AGM is on Monday, April 7 – it is Powick Playing Field Association. The meeting takes place in Powick Parish hall meeting room at 7.30pm and anyone interested in the field’s development is especially welcome.

Powick Guild welcomed Sue Brazier, a qualified osteopath from Callow End at their meeting last month. Members learnt about her skills in treating various aches and pains and learnt that ailments such as shoulder and knee pain often respond to the skill of an osteopath where physiotherapy has not been too successful. The next meeting of the Guild is on Tuesday, April 8 at the Orchard Centre, Colletts Green.

Powick Ramblers enjoyed their annual dinner at the Fox and Hounds in Lulsley last Monday. Their walk on Monday, March 24 in the Bromsberrow area was led by Phil and lunch was taken at the Duke of York. The next walk is on Wednesday, April 9 from the Oak Apple, London Road, meeting for a 3 ½ mile walk around Ronkswood and Tolladine led by Cheryl.
