WHAT an evening of entertainment!

On Saturday, March 29 the versatile Worcestershire Saxophone Ensemble took us travelling from century to century , from Baroque to Contemporary and around the world!

The superb sound of the instruments and very well chosen pieces left us wanting more and we were most grateful for the encore. A full audience showed their appreciation at the skill of the musicians and said” How do you get so much talent together?” Well, the answer is, it is all local, all from Malvern, how fortunate we are to have such a wealth of talent to bring to Christ Church.

Beginning with Handel’s Arrival of the Queen of Sheba the players had the audience enthralled from the start and even the Bach sounded funky! Much foot tapping ensued! The more modern pieces even had us travelling to Buenos Aires for all the passion of the Tango and we even had Sax in the City, a very memorable evening . Let us not forget that they made it look so easy but we were privileged to be listening to some complex pieces and not at all easy to play.

We are grateful to Louisa and her band of musicians and hope to see them return to Christ Church soon.

And on Sunday, March 30 we celebrated Mothering Sunday and our grateful thanks to Chris Shepherd for talking the service. The Church looked beautiful with the golden daffodils on display and these were handed out to all the congregation. It was a time to reflect on Mother Church, Mary the mother of our Lord and our own mothers. We learned that the Simnel Cake was taken by servant girls to their own mothers as a gift when they had their annual visit back home and that the twelve balls on top represented the disciples of Jesus and, moreover, we were able to sample ourselves after the service when Simnel cake and coffee were served.

We look forward to seeing you all on Saturday, April 5 between 10am and noon at our Book Fair when you will have the opportunity to relax and hear Kyle Hutchings on the piano as well as enjoy coffee and cake with friends and find an interesting book to entertain you for hours too!
