WEATHERWISE much of it might have been a washout, but the summer of 2012 provided some golden memories for Worcestershire. It was blessed by two unforgettable events – the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the London Olympic Games. On their own, either would have been spectacular, but together they lifted the spirit of the nation and made Britain proud again.

Now, as the misty mornings and autumnal chill take over, we can look back at summer days of celebration, ceremony, high jinks and high fives.

The royal visit to the Faithful City on Wednesday, July 11, as part of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee tour, was blessed by a sunny day, spectator packed streets, smiles and laughter.

Before the Olympic Games we had, of course, the Torch Relay. Thousands lined the route as the flame was carried across the county by a relay of torchbearers.

Then there were the Games themselves, followed by the Paralympics, in which Worcestershire played a full part, providing everyone and everything from medal- winning competitors to components for the iconic Olympic Torch.

Here are six pictorial reminders of a few of the magic moments. All are available to buy and make a unique souvenir of a simply unforgettable summer.
