THE Malvern Challenge walking event which raises cash helping wounded soldiers has been hailed a success after county firms piled in to help.

The annual event held on Saturday was organised by Dave Lewis, who has frequently flown on the RAF Hercules aircraft bringing wounded soldiers back from Iraq and Afghanistan.

Previous events have raised more than £32,000 for benefactor, the Help for Heroes charity.

This year, 120 walkers signed up to do either the 11-mile or five-mile courses along the Malvern Hills. Mr Lewis said: “Walkers were greeted at the finish by the mayor, who presented medals.

Sponsoship is being totted up. A cheque presentation will be held at the Mount Pleasant Hotel on Saturday, December 2, after the Christmas lights switch-on.
