I WAS bemused and slightly appalled that our civic ‘leaders’ have once again noticed a small problem and then suggested the most inappropriate possible solution.
The complex junction at Barnards Green is certainly a busy one and particularly so at peak times – but it has also to be noted that it is busy in the context of Malvern and not in any absolute sense.
Crossing the road anywhere requires a good degree of alertness and care and this is especially true in areas where there are no crossings.
Whilst I have sympathy with anyone involved in a near miss in this situation, the responsibility is on both pedestrians and drivers to ensure that it is safe to cross. To argue from the premise that one near miss requires the drastic solution of deleting several very useful and much used car parking spaces to make an intermittently used bus stop is intellectually and practically indefensible.
The suggested solution of using the existing bus shelter on the opposite side of the road is practical, sensible and sustainable.
Councillors, please think again.
