SATURDAY, June 2, will live long in the memory of the residents of Birtsmorton, as this was the occasion on which many in the community came together to mark the Diamond Jubilee.

The Farmers Arms kindly offered to host this auspicious event and a team of volunteers took over the organisation of activities.

Children’s games, a bouncy castle and a treasure hunt occupied the younger members during the afternoon (as well as some of the older ones!) and very generous offers of food ensured a sumptuous tea was provided.

In the evening the Farmers Arms organised a pig roast that attracted large numbers. It was estimated at least 150 people were present.

Altogether this was a wonderfully happy occasion and our grateful thanks must go to Julie and her staff together with many others in the village who planned the event.

Our thanks too for the support from County Councillor Tom Wells.

As someone remarked on leaving at the end of the evening, roll on the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022!
