THE LOTS group’s opposition to out of town stores is not good for Ledbury town or the ordinary folk (not shopkeepers) of Ledbury.
I did a survey of numerous products that an ordinary household would purchase over 12 months and found they were 20-60 per cent dearer in Ledbury than in the larger stores.
The answer is to build a large retail park on the outskirts of the town.
Then return most of the shops in town back to the houses and flats that they were originally built for.
This would cure the housing and employment problems in one fell swoop. It would also diminish the damage to the ancient buildings caused by the heavy goods vehicles delivering to the shops.
