DESPITE `April showers' weather, people from within and beyond West Malvern flocked to Monday's West Fest on the playing fields.

It was a happy family occasion with many young children (and an impressive turnout of dogs!) enjoying the sociable atmosphere, the music and the various attractions, food and drink on offer. The childrens' playground was never so busy!

One of the most appreciated exhibits among the stalls was a display of old photographs of West Malvern, many of which had not been seen in the village before and which generated intense interest, especially among old-timers.

At the time of writing, the numbers attending and the financial out-turn had not been announced, but it seems certain that this well-organised and well-supported event, which thanks to an army of local volunteers ran smoothly despite a few almost inevitable traffic problems, should have raised a handsome sum for distribution among village organisations.

Jezz and Fiona Ide, of West Malvern Road, recent converts to serious mountain cycling, will be representing the village in the Worcestershire & Dudley Historic Churches Trust's sponsored cycle ride on Saturday, September 9, when the aim is to visit as many churches as possible within the day. If you are willing to sponsor them, please ring the Ides on 564705. Anyone who would like to take part in the ride should ring Rosemary Herbert for details and sponsorship forms.

West Malvern Social Club is holding a quiz night this evening (Friday) from 8.30pm for teams of four to six people. There will be cash prizes and a raffle with good prizes.
