ANDREW Wilson's recital showed the rich diversification of the Priory organ in partnership with his own skilful ability.

The opening Toccata alla Rumba by Planyavsky was held tightly in its rhythmic pattern by pedal notes, while rapid runs moved above and a melody emerged.

A gigantic work, Toccata, Adagio and Fugue in C by Bach was delivered superbly in a commanding performance. The toccata was played with agility as it progressed from a single voice on to ever more complex counterpoint including impressive pedaling. Haunting, lilting beauty pervaded the barcarole of the Adagio and the Fugue was clearly defined, finger-work dexterous and impeccably conceived.

Larghetto from Vierne's Symphony No.5 was beautiful as Andrew drew quiet aesthetic aqueous harmonies from the organ. The Nutcracker Suite by Tchaikovsky reminded us of familiar music, as staccato and solo stops were brought to prominence.

Angels rubatoed and had lots of fun in La Valse des Anges by Bret, sounding as if Blackpool Tower would have suited them! Then the organ `took off' in Cholley's Rumba sur les grands jeux as its dazzling rhythm gathered pace for a virtuoso finish.

This was Andrew Wilson's final recital before departing from Malvern Priory, and showed how superlative an organist he is.
