LOOKING forward to the new campaign, Malvern RFC will start with a pre-season warm-up match against Hereford at Wyeside tomorrow (Saturday), kick-off 3pm.
Hereford narrowly missed out on promotion to Malvern's league last season, having gone through a rebuilding process, which has seen the nucleus of the successful Colts side develop into an accomplished senior team.
Malvern are looking to enjoy a telling workout in preparation for the opening league derby match at Bromsgrove the following week.
Director of rugby David Robins feels that preparations for the new campaign have been much better than in recent years.
Robins said: "Coach Dave King has laid some firm foundations, assisted by the experienced Dave Wilkinson and Andy Longley. Nick Tisdale has brought some new forwards coaching ideas to the training field and the training session game against National League side Old Patesians was a good test of our capabilities.
"Our pack gave their front eight a really tough time for the first 20 minutes, which brought praise from their coaching team."
Tomorrow (Saturday), the Malvern second XV entertain Worcester Wanderers at Spring Lane, kick-off 3pm.
