PUPILS at The Chase got arty in the celebration of books and reading.

Author and illustrator Hannah Shaw visited the school for a picture book workshop to mark World Book Day on Thursday, March 3.

Through the day Hannah was based in the school’s library and read from her new picture book, School for Bandits, gave talks, presentations and tips on drawing and character creation as well as fielding questions from the pupils.

Penny Bates, the school’s library manager, said: “The picture book collection in our library, which provides books to share with younger brothers and sisters, is a popular section, so this year I invited students to write and illustrate a picture book of their own. Hannah joined us this year to add an extra sparkle to our celebration.”

Pupils from a range of year groups took part in the activities after being shortlisted for their successful entries in the library’s competition.

Hannah’s illustrations can be seen in one of the World Book Day titles, The Great Pet-Shop Panic by Katie Davies.
