PUPILS have been impressing parents with their acting skills in end-of-term school plays.

Year six leavers took the starring roles in Alice in Wonderland at Madresfield CE Primary School.

"They loved it," said headteacher Debbie Langston, "Everybody had a whale of a time. It's such a fun show. We had a Mad Hatter who was very funny and a Cheshire Cat who made everyone laugh."

Castlemorton Primary also produced a musical version of Lewis Carroll's classic children's story.

Colourful costumes, jokes and songs were all part of the show, which involved around 50 children. Alice was played by Katie Brooks.

Music teacher Rebecca Curthoys worked with the children on the music, songs and acting, while other staff, pupils and parents worked together on the scenery, props and costumes.

Powick CE Primary School put on three performances of the musical Oliver! at the village hall.

The production involved every one of the school's 112 pupils.

"It was very successful. The audiences were pleasantly surprised by how high the quality of the production was," said headteacher Richard Drewett.

At Longdon Primary School, children portrayed mill workers, factory owners and politicians in Victoriana --Rags to Riches, a social history of Victorian Times.

The show, which involved every child in the school, was written by the children themselves and brought together the work they have been doing this term on the Victorian era.

It included music hall songs from the time, old sea shanties, poems and stories about the lives of different people during the Victorian period.

The children painted the backdrop for the show with pictures of windmills, canal boats and Stephenson's Rocket.
