THE rock 'n' roll musical Return to the Forbidden Planet took us on an unforgettable intergalactic journey, which encountered some of the main characters and events loosely contained in Shakespeare's The Tempest on the way.
From the start, the audience was involved as it followed instructions to get strapped in ready for take-off in SS Starship Albatross.
The stage was transformed into the interior of a spaceship, helped by flashing lights and interactive screen that beamed in hazards warnings.
Among the personnel was the eloquent narrator Brian May. Captain Tempest was in charge and a team of scientists and navigators put in versatile, expert performances as they sang and danced or played a multitude of instruments.
Some of the antics were highly entertaining, and corny jokes drew groans. Every now and then a song from the 50s or 60s was dropped in - Great Balls of Fire and Shake, Rattle and Roll for instance.
The audience, many of whom were young, but many reliving their youth of the rock 'n' roll era, loved it all and were dancing in the aisles by the end. This entertaining show continues until tomorrow (Saturday).
