THE article in last week's Malvern Gazette covering the Malvern Hills Conservators meeting on the future of St Anne's Well cafe can hardly be described as having been unbiased or impartial.

The report referred to 'hostile interruptions' coming from members of the public, as well as to one person walking out after 'loudly and repeatedly asking whether there were any Freemasons in the room.' The whole tone of the article sought to imply that the Conservators were being perfectly reasonable and civilised, and that opponents to their plans for St Anne's Well are troublemakers.

It was, and remains, perfectly reasonable for the public to wish to know the extent of Freemason involvement in the St Anne's Well debacle. We are supposed to live in a democracy, but this counts for little if the will of the people and the strength of public feeling can be subverted by the shady machinations of an unaccountable secret society. Restrictions on comments from members of the public at Conservators meetings are a useful gagging method to prevent questions being raised over this matter. However, this cannot silence the burgeoning public suspicion that there is more to this matter than meets the eye on the part of the Conservators.
