ON Saturday, November 14, a coffee morning with various stalls is being held in St James’ Church, Callow End from 10am till noon. The proceeds are for the Barnabas Fund which supports Christians under persecution throughout the world. Do pop in for a coffee.

Congratulations to Rosie Brooks who recently completed the New York Marathon, a distance of 26 miles which she completed in 4 hours 28 minutes. Rosie wishes to thank all who supported her in her venture and she is still open to donations on behalf of the Alzheimer’s Society. She has to date raised £2,500.

The Act of Remembrance took place last Sunday afternoon at the War Memorial when John Mason, Standard bearer of the Powick and Callow End Branch of the Royal British Legion, was escorted by Trevor Barry and Guy Phillips. A service conducted by Father Roger Watson followed in St James’ Church, with tea later at the Old Bush. On Wednesday, November 11 members of the RBL will gather again at the War Memorial at the 11th hour for a two minutes’ silence. The older children from Callow End Primary School will join the Act and present small wooden crosses at the Memorial.

On Thursday, November 19 a new venture – for mums and toddlers with play, praise and coffee will take place in St James’ church from 2.30pm till 3pm. Call in and see what’s happening.

Severn heights Nursing Home, on the Old Hills, is holding a Christmas Fayre on Sunday, November 29 at 3pm. Stalls include: tombola, bric-a-brac, jewellery, fashions, Virgin Vie, cards, Hopscotch gifts, cakes, refreshments and a raffle. All are welcome and the proceeds are for residents’ outings and entertainment.
