JAMES Wilson almost trebled the weight of his nearest rival when he beat a talented field to win the final match of the bloodworm allowed series held on the Blockhouse section of the Worcester canal.

Weights have generally been disappointing throughout the series but event organiser Wilson took a creditable 7-12-0 of roach and perch when he offered his bait across to the reeds on permanent peg 218.

Local star Tim Biddle secured the runner-up prize with just 2-5-14 consisting of one good perch and five rudd taken from peg 210.

Missing out by the narrowest of margins was third-placed Alan Baldwin who ended an agonising one dram behind Biddle with his 2-5-13 catch of small roach and perch from peg 220.

He beat Bill Biddle’s 2-2-0 fourth-placed net taken from peg 209.

Wards AC held their latest silver fish only winter league encounter on the club’s pool where 78-year-old Hugh Busby showed his younger counterparts the way by netting 4-5-0 of small roach and perch from peg 24.

He used a single pinkie bait presented on a tiny size 26 hook.

Another seasoned veteran, Derek Silk, finished second weighing in 4-1-0 from peg two, while Pete Hughes finished third on 2-15-0.

With just two matches remaining in the league, Silk leads the way on 64 points in front of Terry Box who has 53 and Hughes in third on 52.

Carp ace Terry King is the latest local angler to record a victory at Cob House Farm when he won the recent Saturday Open on the Oak Pool with an excellent 89-2-0.

Darren Fisher finished second with 76-10-0, while Steve Juliff finished third, weighing in 70-7-0.

Barbourne club anglers made a welcome return to their own pool at Cotheridge with the father and son duo of Bob and Lee Griffiths scoring a remarkable double.

Drawn on the ‘stump’ peg seven, Bob cast a waggler along with maggot bait tight to the feature in order to weigh in an all-carp net of 33-8-0.

Son Lee’s catch of 17-6-0 came to the pole on peg 14 and was made up of just four carp to six pounds, all taken on corn.

The ever consistent Ashley Bosworth claimed third prize weighing in 15-8-0 while Bosworth’s brother Dean was fourth with a level 12-0-0.

The next Barbourne AC event is on the Rifleman’s stretch of the Droitwich canal in two weeks time.
