CATCH up with some of the films that featured prominantly in this year’s Oscars at the Roses Theatre in Tewkesbury next week.

Oscar-nominated films Frost/Nixon, Milk, The Reader and Vicky Cristina Barcelona are all being screen at the Roses between Monday, March 9, and Monday, March 23.

Frost/Nixon is a film about the Watergate scandal and the post Watergate TV interviews between David Frost and Richard Nixon It is directed by Ron Howard and stars Michael Sheen. It is being screened on Monday, March 9, and Tuesday, March 10, at 7.30pm with an additional screening on Tuesday morning at 11am.

Milk is the moving story of Harvey Milk, California’s first openly gay elected official who was assassinated in 1978 by a disturbed fellow politician. Sean Penn plays Milk and screenings are on March 14 and 15 at 7.30pm.

In The Reader Kate Winslet plays a mysterious stranger who has a forbidden romance with a younger man. Years later they are reunited. She is now on trial for war crimes and he is a lawyer. The Reader is being screened on March 16 and 19 at 7.30pm and on March 17 at 11am.

Vicky Cristina Barcelona is a Woody Allen film about two girl friends on a summer holiday who become enamoured with a charismatic painter, unaware his unhinged ex-wife is about to enter the picture. This is on March 17 at 6.30pm and on March 23 at 11am and 7.30pm.
