THIS was the third time in three weeks that these teams had met and although Welland have won all three fixtures, Kempsey have closed the gap on each occasion. Kempsey faced the sun in the first- half, but Welland failed to use the tactical advantage and never tested the goalkeeper with any shots.

Kempsey, on the other hand, looked the most likely to score first.

With the scores level at half-time Kempsey may have felt that this was going to be their week.

However, Welland improved in the second-half and Lewi Hobbs, although playing out of position on the left, became a thorn in Kempsey’s side.

Welland took the lead when Henry Dyde capitalised on a good run by Jim Smith and fired the ball past the keeper.

Johnny Amery doubled Welland’s lead after a surging run forward from his defensive position.

Kempsey scored soon after with a classic counter-attacking goal by capitalising on Welland’s propensity to push forward.
