A new art competition with over £2,000 in prize money will give community members the chance to contribute to the area's creative legacy.

The new outdoor painting competition, The Spirit of Malvern, organised by Malvern Creatives Connect (MCC), is set for Bank Holiday Monday (May 6).

MCC, established in 2023 by theatre director Kirsty Cubberley, is encouraging artists to contribute their unique perspectives to an area associated with the likes of C.S. Lewis, J.R.R Tolkien, Edward Elgar and Dame Laura Knight.

Ms Cubberley said: "The very nature of the Malverns has always attracted creative people.

"Today, we are seeing a groundswell of energy build on this artistic legacy, and ensure that the historic association between Malvern and the Arts is revived and refreshed.

"At MCC, we supporting our local creatives in releasing that energy and ambition."

She added: "Our competition appeals to contemporary artists, who, like Laura Knight, found inspiration in our town, its people and the beautiful surrounding countryside."

Registration is open to anyone over the age of 16, with a cap of 100 participants.

The entry fee is £20, with a discounted £15 for early bird sign ups.
