Star of film, TV and stage Joseph Marcell will head the cast of a new production of The School for Scandal for a five night run at Malvern Theatres.

Mr Marcell, best known for his role as Geoffrey the Butler in the NBC sitcom The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air, is to play ‘Sir Peter Teazle’ in Tilted Wig Productions' fresh interpretation of Richard B. Sheridan’s classic comedy of manners.

The tour will be in Malvern from Tuesday 16th to Saturday, 20th April.

Besides his unforgettable role in the Fresh Prince, Mr Marcell also appeared in BBC's Mammoth and I Hate You, and is slated to appear in Channel 4's Queenie soon.

On the big screen, he was recently seen in Chiwetel Ejiofor’s debut feature film, The Boy Who Harnessed The Wind.

His stage credits include Hamlet at the Young Vic, Lady Windermere's Fan and extensive work with Shakespeare’s Globe among others.

Described as "one of the greatest comedies ever written", the play tells the story of Mr Marcell's character, Sir Peter Teazle, believing his young wife, Lady Teazle, played by Lydea Perkins, is unfaithful.

But while she isn't, she ponders if she might as well give it a try if her husband believes it.

The production promises "a lightning-paced evening of romance, revege and rollicking fun that promises to leave you entertained, enamoured - and perhaps even a little scandalished."

This comedy is described as: "deliciously naughty and outrageously silly" and "a masterclass in social satire and the art of gossip."

The cast also includes Tony Timberlake as ‘Sir Oliver’, Emily-Jane McNeil as ‘Lady Sneerwell’, Alex Phelps as ‘Joseph Surface’, Garmon Rhys as ‘Charles Surface’, Ayesha Griffiths as ‘Maria’ and Guy Dennys taking on the character, ‘Rowley’.

Directed by Seán Aydon, who is known for the national tours of The Picture of Dorian Gray and Frankenstein, the production has been designed by Sarah Beaton, a winner of the Linbury Prize.

Joining her is sound designer/composer, Ed Lewis (Henry V), lighting designer Peter Small (King Stakh's Wild Hunt) and Stephen Moynihan (House of the Dragon, Ted Lasso, Frankenstein) taking on movement direction.
