The organisers of Upton Jazz Festival have thanked everyone who helped make the event such a success.

The jazz festival took place in venues throughout the town from June 23-25.

A programme of ticketed concerts sold out well in advance, with fans keen to catch a glimpse of acts including Ben Holder’s Hot Club Quartet, Tenement Jazz Band and Moscow Drug Club.

And free events also proved popular at venues including the Swan, the Boathouse, Mojitos, Bar 7, the White Lion, the Muggery and the baptist church.

Jon Parsons, who is part of the festival organising committee, said the feedback from visitors to the festival had been “amazing”.

“People have commented on the quality of the music, the varied selection of music and the great atmosphere - and everyone has told us to keep going,” he said.

“Thank you for coming along, for joining in, for playing or applauding, for volunteering, to our venues for sharing your space and everyone who welcomed the jazz with a smile.”

Jon said the majority of venues were “standing room only” at some point over the weekend.

“We’re going to keep on doing what we do ‘down by the riverside’, as we call it,” he added.

“We’ve returned a small profit but if anyone would like to contribute to the festival they’d be very welcome to.

“And we’re very open to new volunteers and people wishing to get involved in the organising of the festival throughout the year.”

The festival is organised by Upton Jazz Association, a charity with the aim of #”providing and encouraging jazz music by inviting the highest quality of award-winning and international talent to Upton whilst also encouraging local and talented young people to explore the music and develop their skills and confidence in performance.”

Profits from festival ticket sales go towards supporting the aims of the charity.
