MEMBERS of a Malvern social club have been stepping up their efforts to refurbish the building.

Volunteers have been working to clean up Newtown Club in Link Top since a new committee was established last month.

The function room has now been given a lick of paint and the club is gearing up to host a Valentine’s Disco on Saturday, February 11.

Almost £900 has been raised towards the club’s refurbishment already, including £76 from a cake raffle and more than £250 from a ‘bonus ball’ competition.

“People are really thinking outside of the box to raise money for the club in more ways than one,” said committee member Ron Harris.

One member, Sharon Jones, donated a gift card that will be used to help buy curtains for the main function room.

B&Q Malvern donated paint, undercoat, gloss, brushes and rollers, while the Dulux Paint Centre donated 10 litres of matt emulsion.

Club wants to update sign

“The committee, members and visitors would like to thank the companies of Malvern who have donated towards the club to enable us to fulfill our dreams of being able to serve our community in a clean, warm environment,” said Ron.

The Order of the Buffaloes, Phoenix Lodge Division, has its own room at the club. It has donated £250 and will see the room renamed The Phoenix Lodge Room.

Newtown Club is now approaching other companies and organisations that may wish to sponsor a room or area of the club.

“We are also looking for a sign specialist to donate a new sign to welcome people to the club outside in the carpark,” said Ron.

“This will enable us to update the very old sign that is there to try to entice the people of Malvern to use the club and see that the club is being upgraded.

“It will also inform new customers of what the club has to offer. The company will be able to incorporate a business logo and contact details as an advertisement for them as sponsors of the sign.”
