AN actor and former sportsman is coming to Worcestershire to make a new documentary about Fijians in the Special Air Service.

Danny Ligairi is bringing his production to Malvern looking to bring the story of the islanders' service to the SAS in the 60s, 70s and 80s.

This will coincide with the documentary "Finding my Father" in which he traces his biological father, the first Fijian to serve in the regiment.

Danny was adopted and raised in Callow End, attending Dyson Perrins and the Chase.

The former professional rugby and basketball player took to acting after his debut alongside Tom Hardy in the BBC1 series Taboo.

He said: "The beautiful surroundings of Malvern are perfect for our production, especially as they were once the training course for the SAS.

"The production will also help to highlight the county's tourism industry further and what a stunning backdrop the hills give for any type of experience.’

The first block of filming is set for the end of July in Malvern and the surrounding area.

With trucks, jeeps and the cast moving around on various days, it will bring some excitement to the town.

Mr Ligairi returned home to the county during the Covid lockdown, becoming part of the documentary's production company.

Fijians have fought for the British Army throughout history, serving against the Japanese in Burma, as well as other theatres up to the present day.

Often referred to as the unsung heroes of the British Army, around 2,000 Fijians are currently employed by the army.

This is largely due to fathers and grandfathers having served previously.
