A MAN on drugs assaulted a paramedic who had been called to help him.

Michael Thomas Sefton, aged 56, assaulted Karen Barker during the incident on February 16, Worcester magistrates heard.

Prosecutor Shafquat Reaz told the court that and ambulance had been called to the Little Priest Lane, Pershore, home of Sefton, who has lost a leg and is wheelchair bound.

Sefton, who was in an agitated frame of mind, punched the paramedic twice in the chest.

Barry Newton, for Sefton, who has pleaded guilty to assault by beating, said that he had a long history of mental heath issues.

On this occasion, he had taken amphetamines.

"He was in a very poor state of mental health, a very dark place indeed," said Mr Newton.

He said that the assault was "more of a push than a punch".

Sefton was conditionally discharged for 12 months and told to pay a total of £255 in costs, compensation and victim surcharge.
