THE film Molière, which shows at Malvern Theatres from today (Friday) to Thursday, September 13, focuses on several years of the playwright/ actor's early life that are unknown to scholars.
Molière is released from prison by Monsieur Jourdain, who agrees to pay the debts of the young comedian if Molière teaches him how to be an actor.
Molière presents himself to the family and staff of Monsieur Jourdain as Tartuffe and falls in love with Elmire, who is the wife of Monsieur Jourdain.
Many scenes and text in the script follow actual scenes and text in Molière's plays, suggesting his life influenced his work.
Evening showings are at 7.30pm, with Saturday, Sunday and Thursday matinees at 4.30pm.
