A TEACHER retired from St Mathias School in Malvern after 50 years in the profession.

Angela Rodway started her teaching career in Stourbridge in September 1968 after gaining a certificate of education at Summerfield College, Kidderminster.

A year later, after getting married, She moved to Dines Green School in Worcester, where she stayed for nine years.

After having two children she did supply work, but then applied for a post at Eastnor Primary School.

Again she stayed for about nine years before applying for the deputy headship of Great Malvern Primary School, where she taught Year Six.

She said: "It is wonderful to see my past pupils around Malvern, many of them sharing their memories of being in Year Six.

Mrs Rodway has been describes as being inspirational, with some of her past pupils becoming teachers because they so enjoyed being in her class.

She later took early retirement from the deputy headship, but carried on teaching at Great Malvern until in 2010, she was appointed at St Matthias CE Primary School.

She became the school's Numbers Count teacher, providing one-on-one tuition and group work to help children who were struggling with maths.

This last year, Mrs Rodway helped children in the school's Years 1 and 2 develop their maths skills, but now she says it is time to retire.

She said she had loved her 50 years teaching and helping so many children enjoy their learning journeys.
